For a career as a legal assistant, you can opt for the Associate in Applied Sciences degree program in Paralegal Studies. This program is approved by the American Bar Association and is a member of the American Association for Paralegal Education. In the degree program, you learn all aspects of paralegal studies. The program includes general education as well as paralegal introductory courses. There are lessons on specific subjects such as fact investigation, family law matters, legal research and ethics. You can earn this degree on a full time or part time basis. This degree program is aimed at training you to become a legal assistant and not a lawyer. The Paralegal Studies Program has a mission statement that is to prepare students for entry-level positions in the legal community. It has objectives of training students to be effective legal assistants. There are three goals of the program, to develop critical thinking and analytical skills, prepare students to perform their duties as paralegals well and to encourage growth of the paralegal profession. The Atlantic Cape Community College started functioning in 1966 and it initially used facilities from Atlantic City High School. It shifted to its present campus in February 1968. Since then the campus has been expanded to add classrooms, a computer lab and a library.
