Description

Washburn University was established in 1865 as Lincoln College by the General Association of Congregational Ministers and Churches of Kansas. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It offers about 190 programs that lead to certificate, associate’s, baccalaureate, master’s and juris doctor degrees. The faculty members are highly skilled and trained with more than 87% of them having a doctorate degree in their respective fields of study.

It has six academic units comprising of the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Law, the School of Business, the School of Nursing, the School of Applied Studies and the Division of Continuing Education. Its Library has more than 340,000 book volumes and about 1,000 periodical subscriptions, and its online catalog has holdings including the Washburn University Law Library, the Kansas Supreme Court Library, the Kansas State Library, and the Kansas State Historical Society Library.

Washburn University and the Kaw Area Technical School (KATS) have an agreement that enables students to earn an Associate of Arts degree in the Legal Studies Program. It also offers a 36 credit hour certificate option to those students who have a prior degree such as an associate’s or higher degree. A minor in legal studies is also offered comprising of eighteen hours of course work in Legal Studies. It also offers a Bachelor of Legal Studies Degree.

The courses offered ensure that students learn the duties of paralegals as well as are trained to seek employment in private law firms, corporate legal departments, government agencies, banks, real estate firms etc. Financial aid is available to deserving students including federal and state grants, loans and scholarships.
